Proud- Okonkwo has worked hard to attain respectability, success, and honor. He is a hard man and quick to anger. Unfortunately, as things begin to change in the village, Okonkwo refuses to bend and change with them. He is too proud as a man and will not give up the traditions of his tribe..... even when everyone else turns away. Okonkwo might have been able to reach a place of peace within himself, but he would not compromise in any way.
