Things Fall Apart

The Igbo women had a particular role in Igbo culture. Most were subservient in a very patriarchal culture. When the white men came, schools were set up. Women could learn the rudiments of reading and teaching of the Bible. Education empowers women. Education is never a bad thing. This, however, upset the Igbo balance within the culture. So, was this a good thing? I think it was in the sense that the marginalized got a shot at having a life. The rigid Igbo culture could not withstand any significant change and change, whether they liked it or not, was coming.
