Things Fall Apart

Things Fall apart Question

Why is the story told in such a roundabout way, with digressions, folk tales, and even whole chapters (chapter five, for example) devoted merely to descriptions of everyday life?

Chinua Achebe wants to infuse his story with a sense of history and mythic beliefs of the Igbo people. The story is not merely about the destruction of Okonkwo but also of the Igbo culture.
