One important thing to note about the role of women in the Igbo society, is the view that they are seen as property. Men have multiple wives, and the number of wives is often determined by the man’s standing within the clan. Women must be subservient to their husband's, and they are completely in charge of cooking and the family (raising the children). Ironically, their doesn't seem to be any jealosy or resentment between the wives. They help one another and share duties.
