Uchendu reprimands Okonkwo for beating women and children. Uchendu is reminding his nephew that strength is not synonymous with force and violence. He is also reminding Okonkwo that strength is not a uniquely male domain. This is something that Okonkwo has a hard time accepting. His understanding of patriarchy and even misogyny is being tested. Okonkwo's stubborn obsession with male dominance and unfettered power will end up being his undoing.
