Achebe includes one of the stories that Nwoye likes to hear his mother tell. Why does this story appear here?

Nwoye is trying to appease his father and make him happy. He pretends to have stopped enjoying his mother's folktales (although in truth he still loves them), and that's why the story is included, although most of his time now is spent listening to Okonkwo's stories of war.
