Exile for Okonkwo and his wives is very difficult. Okonkwo and his wives are no longer young, and beginning all over again without the strength of youth is no easy thing. Okonkwo works hard but, unlike before, he feels no pleasure in it. Okonkwo had hoped to become a lord of the clan but now he is reduced to toiling the land with an old body.
