Jennings had a pretty bad childhood. He was tossed from home to home until his mother picked him up got sick again and then the cycle began again. The Bronx Zoo brought comfort to Jennings. The animals, like him much of the time, were in cages. They offered Jennings an unconditional acceptance he never had. Jennings found that he could survive there by eating customer’s left over food. The zoo also allowed him to meet with Sal the bus driver when he could.
