Janie - This changes throughout the book. Initially success involves a man. With this includes excitement, stability, romance.....

Nanny- Married to a man who provides.

Joe- power, popularity, leadership, money

Logan- work, farm, traditional relations....

Tea Cake- Humour, not working hard, friends, change of scene, not stable.
