after chapter 1, how the story told?

After chapter one Janie is telling her story to Pheoby, her (Janie’s) life story in a flashback told via an omniscient narrator.

It is told by Janie's life story in a flashback. It sort of reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird, you know sort of how Scout was telling her life story in a flashback when she was little.
