What is the style and language the author uses to create atmosphere?

The author uses descriptive language to provide an illustration of the narrator's room. Her room is a nursery, a location that supports the way in which John treats his wife..... like a child. The author also uses phrases like "barred windows" and describes the bed as "iron", "heavy" and "nailed to the ground", all which support the narrator's feelings of imprisonment.
