By the end of the story the narrator's condition has completely deteriorated..... she's crazy. She comes to believe that there are many women creeping around, and that she herself must also come out of the wallpaper. She creeps about smudging the wall paper around the room, and when John finally breaks the door down, he faints when he sees his wife's behavior. Unfortunately, our narrator never notices and just steps over him to resume her creeping.
