How would you explain the narrators final actions at the storys end?

By the end of the story, the narrator has stripped off all the wallpaper in her room and is creeping about the room. Her husband is shocked and faints. She proclaims that she is free and liberated: she crawls over her husband. I think there is some irony here. She claims she is free but she has clearly lost her mind. The narrator is a victim of her husband’s ignorance and misogyny.
