How does the story show that the woman is slowly getting worse?

We vividly see the narrator's condition deteriorate over the course of the story. The more she becomes obsessed with the wallpaper, the more she retreats from reality. The more she retreats from the real world, the more active the woman in the wallpaper becomes.
