How does John feel about her writing? Why might he feel that way?

John feels his wife's writing is worth nothing more than the hobby of a neurotic woman trying to make sense of the world. He looks upon her writing in a vey patriarchal patronizing way. John grew up in a very patriarchal society where gender roles were firmly established. Women were often portrayed of needing to be taken care of by the more worldly and rational male.
