Day 3 - Reading Assignment, Questions, Vocabulary
Students read Sections 3 and 4 (pp. 7-12). Remind them that they should re-read these sections with special attention to the details about the wallpaper. The close reading of the details from the class work on Section 2 should have provided some training so that students can do better at interpreting the details in the present sections.
Daily Lesson Objectives
- Reading well: continuing to track themes; examining character development (especially as the narrator becomes preoccupied with the wallpaper and as readers learn more about John); appreciating how the author constructs the stream-of-consciousness journal entries.
- Thinking well: using the discussion questions to draw conclusions from evidence and to use evidence to weigh arguments and counterarguments, particularly as students consider the narrator's changing personality.
