how does the tone change through the story?

The Yellow Wallpaper is well constructed in that the tone of the main character Jane regresses into insanity as the story progresses. The sentences become shorter and quite choppy, and reflect the general progression from a merely depressed state to a paranoid and ultimately insane frame of mind.

Yes, the tone is suggestive of one who is insane.  However, "Jane" does crawl over her husband at the end of the story.  Perhaps then, it was the very insanity of oppression that has freed her from submissiveness; liberating the narrator into complete sanity.  She's finally free of him!

I do not beleive she is insane at the end.

Thoughts?
