Plantain Leaf

I want to ask a question!!

Does anyone know of what the significance of the plantain leaf that is covering the key is?  Why did the author choose this leaf?

I believe the only reason she chose this is because of the leaf's large size. By telling her husband it fell under the plantain leaf, rather than any old leaf, was just out of mere convenience and realism.
