The Worst Hard Time

Why did Uncle DIck coon want to stay in No Mans Land?

It is obvious that he had money but by the end he was living in poverty. WHat are some quotes explaining why he stayed?

Dick Coon made himself rich by buying almost every piece of property he could get his hands on and making a lucrative business out of it. When the prices dropped, Dick Coon showed his giving side and spent everything he had on other people. I think he identified himself by No Man's land and would not leave.
