    Why do you think that Oz appears in different forms to each visitor?

    Students' answers will vary, but they should consider what effect Oz wants to have on his audience. Does he want to intimidate them? Keep them guessing so that no one ever figures out his true identity? Is it possible that what he actually looks like would belie his power? Does never showing himself to anyone give him more power? Is he actually powerful, or does the idea that he is powerful make him powerful? Explore the idea of "mystique."
