The Wild Duck

The model of the character Hedvig was a German girl Ibsen met when he was completing the play in Gossensass in the summer of 1884. Hedvig was the name of his sister, with whom he was very close, who in turn was named for their maternal grandmother, Hedevig Paus (1763–1848).[2]

The character Old Ekdal is considered to be based on Ibsen's father, Knud Ibsen.[3]
