Gregers has returned to his home in order to avange his father's crimes against the Ekdal family. His intentions include unveiling the true nature of Hialmar's family life, exposing his wife's affair with his father, and questioning the true parentage of his son Werle. he feels that if Hialmar makes himself like the "wild" duck, he will raise himself into the "light of truth."
