The White Goddess is an essay written by the English poet Robert Graves. The essay was published in the year 1948 and was the result of different essays written by Robert Graves and published in the literary journal Wales.

In The White Goddess, the author discussed the idea of poetry and what made a piece of writing as being really poetry. Robert Graves discusses the mythology from Ireland, Britain and other European countries. The author highlights the idea that in mythology, there exists a common Goddess who seems to be worshiped by various countries. The author discusses the women figure in the book and how it women were regarded in mythology in time.

The book is generally considered as being a complex one and it is considered as being an influential one. Various writers admitted being influenced by the writings of Robert Graves. Some however claimed that the essay influenced them in a negative manner.
