Laurie's mother isn't convinced that Mr. Ross' teaching methods are appropriate.... she believes the to be too militaristic. Laurie takes this in stride and says she likes the concept. She also mentions the almost immediate change in Robert (her classmate). I don't, however, personally see this as a conflict between Laurie and her mother. Parent/ teenage conflicts are not uncommon, and where Laurie's mother is old enough and experienced enough to see potential problems.... teenagers tend to roll with their peers.
