The novel is meant to open our eyes and make us understand how quickly a mob mentality and desire to belong can change almost anyone. Facism, propaganda, peer pressure, and strong leadership (even if it isn't good leadership), can and have changed the world. The author's intent is to warn us that it could easily happen again.
