How do Laurie and David differ over the wave?

Laurie thinks the wave is conformist and dangerous. She fears "group think" and that students are being intimidated to join. David thinks the wave is a positive force. He thinks Laurie must think a lot of herself to be opposed to the wave. He accuses Laurie of wanting her popularity back.
