The Wasteland would best be described as an elegy of loss. The loss of family, the effects of destruction..... the loss of a way of life.

The Waste Land is an epic poem which is about the loss of spiritual faith. It's not an elegy because an elegy laments the death of a favourite person. It's not also an allegory because although it has many allusions it is not an allegory of one particular myth, history or a work.
