How realistic is it that Truman's father could suddenly re-appear in Seahaven and dressed like a homeless man?

The fact that he is supposed to have drowned in front of Truman makes his reappearance rather suspect, Truman's reality, however, is scripted and manipulated that Truman often does not question what happens to him.
