Why would each of the time travellers friends like to visit the future?

This is the only quote I can find in the text that alludes to one of the friends wanting to travel into the future. 

‘Then there is the future,’ said the Very Young Man. ‘Just think! One might invest all one’s money, leave it to accumulate at interest, and hurry on ahead!’
