"The Thorn" is a poem written by William Wordsworth and was published in 1978. The poem was part of a collection of poems between Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Wordsworth's inspiration for the setting of the poem, a mountain, came from his own experience of seeing a hawthorn tree in Quantock Hill in Somersetshire. He wanted to integrate superstitious elements through this poem, hence he left many things ambiguous. The themes present include death, loss and also an element of mystery as to nature of the baby's death.
