Why do you think O'Brien has Norman Bowker drive around the lake eleven times?

This particular scene speaks to Norman's loneliness. He has nowhere to go, no one to talk to, and no one with whom he can share his experiences. For someone who wasn't in Vietnam, the experience would be incomprehensible. Unable to talk it out, Norman has no outlet for letting go.
