For O'Brien's daughter Kathleen, the "Field Trip" is a child's journey inro and unknown land, something new and different. For O'Brien, the title of the chapter is a pun based on ther irony of how the father and daughter both see it all so differently. O'Brien's memories shadow the things around him, but for his daughter everything is new and different. She doesn't understand her father's memories and experiences (she's ten).
