I am reading the things they carried by tim o brien and this os one of the questions in the short story speaking of courage

Norman's father is happy with his son's achievements. What father wouldn't be proud of seven medals. The problem stems from the fact that Norman cannot share his experiences with his father, not whether or not he'd achieved what was expected of him.
