Prospero and Miranda were set adrift on the open sea in a decayed vessel, and were able to survive off the supplies that the honest councilor Gonzalo arranged for them to have; thus, they landed on the island where they now live. From this act of kindness, we can infer that Gonzalo did not support Antonio's plot and chose to do the right thing. He may not have been in a position to stop Antonio's plot, but he could change the outcome and insure Propero and Miranda would retain their lives.
