What does Meursault value most in life? How does the reader know?

Also, what is a main influence on Meursault's life?

I would say that Meursault values his isolation and indifference to people. These traits seem to be the pattern of his life. Meursault feels little emotion upon the death of his mother and finds personal relationships difficult to maintain. Meursault is very self-absorbed in his existentialist world.
