How do you connect the main events in chapter 4 with Meursault's way of experiencing or perceiving the things that happen in his life?

Although Meursault enjoys Marie's company he tells her that he does not love her. Apparently he loves sex with her and the salty smell of her hair on the pillow but he does not love her. This ties in with Meursault's assertion that life itself is meaningless. He extends this motif to all his relationships.
