Why did Miss Sullivan take take great interest in Helen's education?

Anne Sullivan contracted an eye disease at the age of five, which greatly damaged her sight. She understood that blind/deaf students were teachable.... that they were intelligent. Her own education and subsequent desire to teach led to her job with the Kellers. She came to love Helen and wanted her education to encompass everything she was capable of learning.
