Fate or Free Will

The answer to this would be "free will." There was a choice here, and that was to accept what had happened or the choice of revenge. Some will note that "revenge" was had through madness, but in this novel I put it down to knowing the difference between right and wrong and ultimately choosing wrong. Making the wrong choice or knowing that's what you're choosing to do has a way of making one mad.
