After the Emancipation Proclamation, the mai goal of the freed slaves was to find acceptance. They needed jobs.... they needed to provide for themselves. Strengths were seen as weaknesses, lack of education was a major factor, and cohesion was integral. Unfortunately, all of these things would comprise a very long process.
