The Secret Zoo Imagery

The Secret Zoo Imagery

A typical school cafeteria

After the first visit to the zoo after Megan’s disappearance, Noah “could barely function”. He was sitting in the school cafeteria, waiting for his friends to join him. He was silent and deep in his thoughts. He created a striking contrast to the mess in the canteen. Around him, “kids behaved in their normal fashion”. They were “laughing, hollering, and launching corn with their plastic spoon catapults”. This imagery conveys the atmosphere, which usually reigns in school cafeterias all over the world with all its noise, smells and mess.

A whirlwind made of birds

No sooner had Noah lost any hope to find answers to his questions than something strange happened. “All of a sudden, more birds shot out of the hole, each one directly on the tail of the bird ahead of it”. Noah noticed that “they were flying so close to one another that they blurred together in a stream of colorful feathers”. In a matter of seconds, there were “hundreds of birds”. They behaved rather strangely! The birds “dived through the treetops, perched on branches, and skimmed the glass walls”. This imagery creates a feeling of presence, a reader can easily imagine, a flock of birds and noise they can create.

The tree fort

Noah was looking at the tree fort and he had to admit that it was “the most elaborate tree fort he had ever seen”. It had “a roof, two doors, and four windows”. There were “three points of entry: a ladder, a rope, and a spiral staircase that circled the trunk”. There also were “long rope bridges” that “connected the fort to far-off trees”. This imagery portrays a dream of almost every child about a tree house or a tree fort. It also saturated with childlike adoration of it.
