I'd have to agree with your assessment. The novel, The Secret River, explores the destructive conflict of civilizations during the colonization of Australia. The initial encounters between the Aborigines and the white settlers, as well as their competing claims to the land led to a violent dispersal of the Aborigines that resulted in the foundation of modern Australia.
