Walter Mitty's fantasies are all clichéd and all involve one or another form of glorified masculinity. As noted in the section above, this may be explained as a dream fulfillment of sexual desires frustrated in real life. To expand on the point, we should take note of the specific form of Mitty's frustration: emasculation. Thurber lines up the details subtly and skillfully: In the fantasies it is Mitty who is the exemplar of maleness to whom other (usually younger) men look up to, whereas in reality it is his wife who determines his masculinity and his maturity, admonishing him to wear his gloves and own overshoes.

Oh, it's a very interesting topic. I finished reading the novel yesterday because it was a task in my literature course. And the next step is writing a paper based on it, and the analysis of characters will be included. I'll also write about the inheritance of the behaviors, but I can't answer your question for now. For me, it's not easy to write such a paper because I have analytical skills, but when it analyzes a novel, it may be hard. But I know educational resources with essay examples, and I think that I will find something useful there. I use it sometimes when I have writing troubles. Such essay examples help me to come up with my own ideas, and I hope this time I'll also succeed in writing.
If you still will be interested, I can share some thesis from my paper after finishing it.
