The Daughters of Mary are a group of women made up of Queenie, Violet, Lunelle, Mabelee, Cressie, and the Boatwrights. They worship Our Lady of Chains (Mary) and come together for solidarity. Their "church" is not conventional Catholicism. Their beliefs are very matriarchal instead of patriarchal. They revere Mary more than Jesus or any other part of the Catholic faith. They also see Mary as a black woman, which would not go over well in a traditional Catholic Church.
