The Secret Life of Bees

Do you agree with Lily that people would rather die than forgive? Does she forgive her mother? T-Ray? Herself?

I've gotten a few different opinions about this.

Sometimes, this might be true. I've always felt that it's easier to forgive than to forget. In the end, Lily does find it in herself to forgive her mother, and she also finds a way to understand T-Ray, although I'm not sure if undertsnding is actually forgiving. She loves him, but she's afriad of him.... can you really forgive someone you do not trust? As for forgiving herself, think about the old saying, "the truth shall set you free." Lily ends the novel with the truth..... she never had to forgive herself because she'd never intentionally caused anyone harm. She'd spent her life feeling guilty for an accident.....
