Scarlet Letter Q&A ch 1-7
Answers 1Add Yours
Hester worries about several things about Pearl. At first she is concerned about her survival with Pearl after Pearl is born. Pearl, as she grows, seems somewhat uncontrolled/uncontrollable because she is often into mischief. Because of the strictures of society, Hester worries that she might be a punishment for Hester's sin. At the same time, Pearl is very perceptive and Hester worries about what the child will intuitively figure out.
