What did the townspeople think of the living arrangement for dimmesdale and chillingworth?

The townspeople arrange for Chillingworth to live with Dimmesdale. They think that Dimmesdale is lonely, alone, and sick. Chillingworth seems to be a logical person to match Dimmesdale with. Chillingworth is also a learned man as well as a doctor.
