What did the community think of the Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale?

The townspeople all love Dimmesdale. THey felt he was a pious young preist. His obvious physical and mental anguish is taken as some kind of suffering for God. Even when he tries to confess his sins to them, they don't really listen to him because they think he could do no wrong.
