What did Hester learn about her plans for departure?

Hester and Dimmesdale have worked out a plan to escape on a ship heading for Europe. Roger Chillingworth, however, had spoken with the ship's captain. The captain was happy to add Chillingworth to the crew because they needed a doctor. Although Hester does not visibly react to this news, she is devastated.
