Do you understand Hester's wish to keep the baby's father a secret? What are your feelings towards Roger Chillingworth?

Hester is a very proud women. If Dimmesdale did not have the courage to claim Pearl as his own, she did not want him known to be father of her child. The revelation would also certainly destroy Dimmesdal's reputation in the village and Hester still loves him. Chillingworth is evil. His whole purpose in this story is to exact a twisted sort of revenge on Dimmesdale which trancends siimply Dimmesdale's relationship with Hester.
