The Scarlet Ibis

Can you find as many things, images, ideas that are red ?

To get us ready for the main symbol in the story, the author “paints” his story red.

bleeding tree

Trembling, he'd push himself up, turning first red, then a soft purple....

much as our blood sometimes bears the seed of our destruction, and at times I was mean to Doodle.

Hope no longer hid in the dark palmetto thicket but perched like a cardinal in the lacy toothbrush tree, brilliantly visible.

He was looking up into the bleeding tree. "It's a great big red bird!" he called.

........ a chicken, with scarlet feathers and long legs, was perched precariously.

"It's a scarlet ibis," he said.....

He had been bleeding from the mouth, and his neck and the front of his shirt were stained a brilliant red.

He lay very awkwardly, with his head thrown far back, making his vermilion neck appear unusually long and slim.
